After two years of litigation with a major record label, Andy Goldwasser and Phillip Ciano were able to obtain a $500,000 award for past-due royalties to O’Jays’ deceased member, William Powell. In addition to obtaining the “past due” royalty award, C&G negotiated future royalties for the family of Mr. Powell for “synchronized” use of the O’Jays’ music in such recognizable mediums as NBC’s reality show “The Apprentice” and Coor’s Lights NFL “Love Train” commercial.
Utilizing their extensive national commercial/entertainment experience, C&G worked with royalty expert Arty Erte (audit agent for Michael Jackson and Santana to name a few) to calculate a disputed royalty amount dating back to the 1980’s.After various cross-motions, hearings and contentious litigation, the record company finally agreed to resolve the dispute which was gaining wider popularity in light of the O’Jays’ recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
