Overview
Phillip Ciano's practice is devoted to corporate and complex transactional and litigation matters. Within this arena, Mr. Ciano represents a variety of executives and shareholders, corporations, physicians and physician practice groups in commercial and employment-related transactions and litigation. Mr. Ciano's practice is primarily focused on business/healthcare disputes, including enforcement and defense of non-compete agreements, business "divorces," partner/shareholder disputes and transactional matters. Additionally, Mr. Ciano is engaged to represent individuals and companies in intellectual property litigation matters.
Phil Ciano began his career in international business as a trader for Harmony International, Inc. After completing a post-graduate sabbatical with Tufts University's Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy, Mr. Ciano graduated cum laude from the John Marshall Law School of Chicago. His unique background and experience have evolved into a national practice in which he has successfully represented individuals and entities across the country.
Notable Engagements
Corporate / Commercial Litigation: Engaged to represent a number of corporations in various business matters, including Merrill Lynch/Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, and Harmony International. Also engaged to represent a number of closely-held corporations and has been approved as counsel for insurers, such as ACE American Insurance Company, The Hartford, United National Insurance Group and Travelers Bond. Corporate/employment counsel for WindowPro/Marvin and the Secretariat for Catholic Charities Health & Human Services - Northern Ohio's largest non-profit organization.
Healthcare: Engaged to represent a number of healthcare entities and individual physicians in employment, commercial and partnership, fiduciary matters, and non-competition agreements. Mr. Ciano's healthcare client list ranges from institutional entities such as Akron Children's Hospital's Heart Center to closely-held physician practice groups to HMOs such as Wellborn Health Plans.
Complex Litigation: Building on the successes of In re Sulzer MDL (a $1 billion settlement), In re Vioxx MDL (a $5 billion settlement) and In re Welding Fume MDL, Mr. Ciano is currently representing a national client base in In re Yaz and DePuy MDL's.
Other: When not practicing law, Phil works with youth sports at Gesu School and sits on the Boards of New York technology company, Incentient, Mentor Lake Catholic High School and Canterbury Heritage Foundation.
